The Purpose of the GSB

The Glass Smart Bulletin (GSB) is a Blog I have started for the purpose of helping to educate my current and potential customers about my consulting work.  These posts are written with everyone in mind.  That being building owners, property maintenance companies, real estate agents and brokers, lawyers, insurance companies, janitorial companies, window manufacturers, window cleaning companies, general contractors, pressure washing companies, painters, and more.  Essentially anyone who comes into contact with window surfaces for whatever reason.

Glass Smart Consulting (GSC) is a sole proprietorship focused on all of the various problems that can develop with windows, doors, skylights, and mirrors.  It includes problems such as scratches, etched surfaces, crazing and or hazing of plastic fenestration, and various types of stains/deposits.  Sometimes the client is simply interested in identifying the nature of the problem.  Other times they are looking to know how it happened, how to repair it, and how to prevent it from ever happening again.  Most times this includes what I call preservation technology.  Which involves the use of special high tech sealants.

There are many different types of surfaces which must be identified on any job.  Glass is never just glass.  Much of the float glass that is being turned out these days is in my opinion defective.  Not the strength or transparency of such window glass.  But rather the surface.  It is "scratch sensitive".  Also glass can be completely transparent, or slightly tinted, or very dark.  It also can have different metallic coatings such as low e, anti-reflective, or low maintenance.  These are becoming more difficult in recent years to notice.  Windows can also be covered with a polyester/mylar film that is used for blocking different parts of the suns solar spectrum.  Then too windows can be either acrylic, or polycarbonate.  These can be crazed, hazed, or chemically degraded.  All of this is merely a very brief summary of what I usually find out there.  The bottom line if I never know exactly what to expect.  And as you read through these different posts I think you will agree that this is a very unique type of work.  But I want to say it is also very rewarding and enjoyable!

I have met many different people over the last twenty five years.  And have visited many different places.  My most memorable consulting work was down in NYC where I visited the WTC, the Met Art building, and the NYC Grande Hyatt.  Many other buildings were scattered around.  Most have been in New England where I live.  I have also been invited by the IWCA to give seminars in Texas and Florida on the technology of stain removal.
