NEGSA NH Meet Will Discuss Etched Glass

The NH Meet will be held at the Poor Peoples Pub in Sanbornville, NH on September 30th a Thursday between 3 to 5.  Here are a few pictures of the PPP.

I will be demonstrating the three different destructive effects of hydrofluoric acid.  The first will be the clouding effect.  This usually happens on contact.  But can also take time from vapors.  The second is the distortion effect which is typified by total dissolution of the glass surface.  I have seen it manifest as long lines from concrete sealant run off and what I call an orange peal effect from hard water spots.  The third is the mag effect where any scratch or patch of scratches are magnified by 50 times over.  This happens instantly.  Any light scratching is magnified every single time so they become very visible!

I will also be demonstrating how to use the last effect to test a simple compound for scratching.  If there is any chance at all that a compound will create scratches it is possible to text it on a mirror plate using both your product in question and a product based on as little as two percent HF.

When performing stain removal with a compound there are three factors that must be addressed.  The quality and properties of the window surface, the quality of the polishing compound, and the restoration technique employed.

It is a protection if we are familiar with these different visual destructive effects.  Simply because they could be lurking underneath dirt or any other contaminant like concrete sealant, paint, wood stain, thick pollution, concrete, or something else.  When we clean using routine or nonroutine methods we could very easily reveal etching, scratches, or both.  Then we could be sued by the home owner.  They could very easily claim that the etching or scratches were never visible until after the windows were cleaned.  And blame the window cleaner.  This make me want to have a waiver signed for every new job
